9 Things You No Longer Need to Wear Over 50
#1. Showing too much skin
Now that you're over 50, you have nothing to prove to the world.
You do not need to be the sexiest gal in the room showing off the most cleavage or sexiest back-bearing look.
You can say goodbye to that and still look beautiful, elegant, and refined and let yourself be projected rather than all of your body parts.
#2. Daisy Dukes
This one also has to do with showing too much skin - you can say kiss my a** to ultra short shorts, aka, Daisy Dukes.
We don't need them! You don't need booty shorts or cropped tops.
Enjoy wearing a little bit longer shorts.
Do you know what I love about not having to wear short shorts anymore?
It’s that when you sit down your whole butt is not stuck to the chair or to the hot car seat.
Wear your shorts a little bit longer you'll be more comfortable. it's a more elegant and refined look so enjoy the longer length on a little bit longer length on your tops and your shorts
#3. Sweatshirts
You know those zip up fleece or the sweatshirts that have your college logo in the center, or that you've been to Disney?
All of those, you can say goodbye to them!
They're not doing anything for your figure.
Most have the round crew-neck and as you've heard me say in other videos and posts, “round equals pounds.”
You can get rid of those.
While they are fine for lounging at home or walking the dog, they just give a very boxy cut.
They're unshaped and they just add weight - which over 50, we don't need that anymore.
Instead choose cozier options such as wraps, cardigans and different jackets.
You don't need a sweatshirt to be comfortable.
#4. Heavy Earrings
You know those big heavy earrings that drag down your earlobes?
I’m not saying you have to say no to large earrings, but now they actually make Lobe Wonder for earrings that will help your earrings stay up and protect your earlobes.
You can also change to lighter options that won't drag down your ear and make you look older.
And if you like big earrings, choose ones that are made of light weight materials.
#5. Clothing that is Not Your Style
I think that at our age we have the luxury of saying goodbye to things that just aren't us anymore.
You don’t have to wear anything that isn’t 100% your style. Go through your closet and take out any times that don’t fit your style or your current lifestyle.
Embrace your age, embrace your wisdom, and only wear clothes that you love the way they look on you.
#6. Clothes that Don’t Fit Properly
If you are keeping clothes that don't fit you properly, get them out of your closet.
Maybe they are clothes that are too big, too tight, or just have a wonky fit.
You don't need them anymore they're not serving you any purpose you probably put them on and feel lousy in them anyway so you take them off you throw them back in your closet you don't have to do that you can either take them to a tailor or get them out donate them sell them and go get something that fits you properly
#7. Elastic Waistbands
I do love elastic waistbands but the trick is you don't want anybody to see them.
Yes, they are super comfortable, especially after a big meal, but no one needs to see it.
If you're going to wear an elastic waistband, wear a top that you can tuck slightly and then let the rest billow over.
If you’re wearing a button down, tie a knot in the front.
You can also choose a longer length top because long enough that it's hanging down to cover the elastic waistband.
So the trick is, if you're going to wear an elastic waistband, just hide it.
#8. Chipped Nail Polish
At our age, nothing looks worse than seeing chipped nail polish.
If you can’t maintain your nails, either don't wear nail polish at all or go get a manicure every week or two.
Or do what I'm doing and buy some PRESS ON NAILS! If you haven't seen these recently, they are a game changer!
They're easy to put on they are lots of fun.
They come in hundreds of different options and I actually save so much time doing the press-on nails.
I was going every two weeks for gel manicure would take about an hour. It was really harsh on my nails and I decided to give my nails a breather.
So a couple months ago, I tried these press-on nails.
The technology has changed so much since press on nails came out years ago.
My favorite is the French manicure but these nails come in a wide variety of lengths short, medium, and long. They are also available in different shapes including square, almond, and coffin shape. In addition, they come in hundreds of fun colors and styles.
They even have press on nails for holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day!
My nails stay on for over a week because I use the press-ons and combine them with this brush-on nail glue.
#9. Buying One-Off Pieces
We are at an age now that we don't have to buy one-off pieces that don’t go with anything else in our wardrobe.
Instead, you want to build a closet full of clothes that you love to wear that will build on itself, so you can mix and match pieces.
What does it mean to buy one-off pieces?
A one-off piece is something you buy on impulse. It may be because a friend or salesperson talked you into it or because it was a good deal. The dead-giveaway of a one-off piece is that it doesn't go with anything else in your wardrobe.
It’s not really your style and it doesn’t pair well with any of your other clothes, shoes, or accessories.
One-off pieces tend to be the garments you try on when getting dressed, and immediately remove because something just doesn’t look right.
These pieces end up taking up space and add lots of visual clutter to your closet. Worst of all, keeping these garments around only creates chaos to your wardrobe and makes it more difficult to see all the good pieces you own.
