What to Wear Sledding Without Snow Pants
I grew up on the East Coast just outside of Philadelphia.
So I have seen more than my fair share of blizzards, snowstorms and ice storms.
As a kid, there was nothing better than hearing the radio announce that your school was closed for the day.
Do you know what that meant?
A day of fun outside - sledding, skating, tobogganing, snowball fights, building snowmen and snow forts, and even some cross country skiing.
But before you headed outside, your mom would check to make sure you were dressed properly for the cold.
It’s easy to put on a t-shirt, sweater, and winter coat. Then you add a hat, scarf, and mittens to keep your upper-half warm and dry.
But what do you wear if you don’t have snow pants?
Layers are the key to keeping warm if you are sledding without snow pants. The layers will not only add fabric between you and the snow, but also some air between the layers which will help keep you warm.
What to Wear Sledding without Snow Pants
Layer 1: Always start with a good under-layer such as long underwear or leggings.
Layer 2: Add a thick bulky layer like jeans or sweat pants.
Optional Layer 3: If you have nylon running pants you can wear them as a top layer to help keep moisture out.
What to Wear Sledding without Snow Boots
After you have the pants portion of your outfit worked out, you need to figure out what to wear on your feet.
What to Wear if You Don’t Have Snow Boots?
This happens so often to kids. You have a perfectly good pair of snow boots…but you hit a growth spurt and now they are two sizes too small.
Well you can still have fun outside without those snow boots.
Here’s what you should wear:
Layers will help to keep your feet warm and dry.
Layer 1: Thin high socks (as high as you have)
Layer 2: Thick wool socks or athletic socks
Layer 3: Sneakers, rain boots, or hiking boots. Tip: If you have shoes with a good tread they will help you keep from slipping and sliding.
Have fun in the snow, stay safe, and afterwards, go inside and warm up with some hot chocolate.
