12 Beauty Mistakes Making You Look Older!
Isn’t it funny how some of our beauty habits, especially ones we’ve had for ages, can sneakily start working against us? Well, if you’re like me, a woman over 50, it’s time to reassess and tweak those routines.
Here are my top 12 beauty tips to help you look as young as you feel. So, grab your coffee (or wine!), and let’s get into it.

1. Revamp Your Skincare Arsenal
Okay, friend, when was the last time you switched up your skincare?
If you’ve been loyal to the same potions for over a decade, it might be time for a change. Our skin’s needs change as we mature—it craves more hydration and less harshness. Look for products that promise moisture and gentle care to keep those fine lines in check.

2. Modernize Your Makeup Moves
Remember those makeup tutorials from the ’80s with the blue eyeshadow and heavy blush?
Fun times but not very flattering decades later!
Styles and techniques have evolved, and so should our makeup game. Let’s embrace the new ways to enhance our natural beauty without looking stuck in a time warp. I like to think of it as the no-makeup makeup look. By that, choose colors and products that allow you to shine through.
Some of my favorite brands for mature skin are:
Jones Road - I especially love their Miracle Balm
Subtl Stacks - all your makeup in one convenient stacking compact
Thrive Causemetics - my favorites are their Liquid Lash Mascara, their tinted Eyebrow Gel, and Triple Threat Color Stick
Trestique - I love The Essential 8 Kit! It’s all the makeup products you need in one handy pouch
3. Embrace Innovative Skincare
I recently discovered Calecim skincare, a brand that uses science-backed ingredients to rejuvenate aging skin. Their products use stem cell technology to actually communicate with your own cells – how cool is that?
I even had a chat with a microbiologist from Calecim who broke down the benefits, and let me tell you, it’s fascinating! I’ve been using their serum and have noticed my skin looking fresher and more vibrant.

4. Soften Your Contouring
Heavy contouring can be a trap!
Instead of sculpting our features, it can end up highlighting wrinkles and lines (no thank you!).
I’ve ditched the heavy contouring for a lighter touch with just a hint of blush and a dab of highlighter where it really counts—on the cheekbones and brow bones.
5. Tend to Your Brows
Brows are the frames of our faces, and ignoring them can really show our age.
Whether it’s filling them in or just a simple comb-through, keeping your brows neat and tidy can lift your entire face. And if you’re like me, struggling with lighter brows, a tinted gel can be a lifesaver.
6. Lighten Up Your Foundation
A thick, cakey foundation is a no-go. It settles into every line and wrinkle.
Instead, I’ve switched to a lightweight, hydrating, tinted moisturizer that evens out my skin tone without masking it. It’s about letting our natural beauty shine through with just a little boost.
7. Never Sleep in Your Makeup
We’ve all had those late nights when we considered skipping the face cleanser but sleeping in your makeup is a big oops!
It can lead to breakouts and even accelerate aging. Make it a nightly ritual to give your skin a clean slate.
Instead, take a moment to use a cleansing balm. Rub it on your skin and allow it to melt away your makeup (including eyeshadow). Then, remove it with a damp washcloth. It's easy and no mess!

8. Don’t Skimp on Sunscreen
Sunscreen isn’t just for beach days; it’s a daily essential. I look for makeup and moisturizers with built-in SPF to simplify my routine while protecting my skin from those pesky UV rays that age us faster.

9. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Water is our best friend for keeping our skin plump and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
I always keep a water bottle handy to make sure I’m sipping throughout the day.
10. Brighten Your Smile
A bright smile can be your best accessory. I use whitening strips that are easy to use and give great results. They’re perfect for multitasking while you’re getting ready for the day.
My favorite is Burst Whitening Strips. They go on easily and stay in place. Each pack comes with a top and bottom strip. You only leave them on for 15 minutes (the time it takes me to apply makeup and style my hair) and remove them for a brighter, white smile!
11. Choose the Right Lip Color
Matte lipsticks can be drying and draw attention to fine lines. I prefer a hydrating, glossy lipstick that helps my lips look fuller and more youthful. Don’t be afraid to play with color!

12. Rethink Your Nightly Routine
Your skin does its best healing while you sleep, so make your nightly routine count. A restorative night cream can work wonders, and for that extra care, a specialized product like an eye contour cream can make a big difference by morning.
