How to Not Look Frumpy with this Easy Trick!
Have you ever looked at your reflection in the mirror and felt 'frumpy' but couldn't focus on what was off your outfit? This is a feeling we all know too well. But here's the good news: it's entirely avoidable!
How to Create Balanced and Harmonious Outfits
The secret lies in understanding balance in your wardrobe. Balance arises from the right fit, suitable color choices, tastefully used prints and patterns, and well-matched accessories. In this guide, we will explore each of these factors in detail to help you avoid fashion fails and never look or feel frumpy again.

Creating Balance with Fit
Fit is a significant factor when choosing the best outfits for your body. Here's an easy rule to follow that works with almost all body types and wardrobes - the rule of 'loose versus fitted'.
When wearing a loose bottom, always choose a fitted top.
If you're wearing a fitted top, choose a loose bottom - be it palazzo pants, a flowy skirt, or even the new, looser jeans. Pair them with a top that's more fitted.

A full top paired with a full bottom may result in a frumpy look. Conversely, if you have a loose top like an oversized blouse or a relaxed-fit sweater, always pair it with something more fitted on the bottom, like a pencil skirt, leggings, slimline pants, or fitted jeans.

However, be wary of wearing a tight top and a tight bottom. Unless you have an hourglass figure, this combination tends to throw off your proportions and puts focus on the areas you may want to detract from.
Achieving Color Balance
As much as I love color, it's essential to balance it correctly in your outfit. I balance that out when dressing in vibrant colors by keeping the rest of my outfit neutral. White, navy, and denim are my go-to neutrals. They provide a clean, bright, neutral backdrop that allows the main color to pop.
To further achieve balance with color, consider 'color harmony'. Complementary colors (those opposite each other on the color wheel) and analogous colors (those next to each other) can create stunning, harmonious looks.
Print and Pattern Balance
When it comes to prints and patterns, they can either make your outfit look stunning or chaotic. The key is to stick to one print per outfit. If you're going to wear a printed top, keep everything else neutral.
If you're adventurous and want to mix different prints, ensure they share the same color palette. And to make them play well together, mix one larger print with one smaller print.
Accessory Balance
Accessories, often an afterthought as we head out the door, can significantly create a balanced look. If you opt for statement jewelry, choose one item as the show's star.
If you're wearing big earrings, pair them with a tiny necklace and thinner bracelets, or skip the necklace entirely. If you choose a chunky necklace, go with very small earrings and pared-down wrist jewelry.
To further add balance, consider having all accessories in the same color or tone. This strategy makes mixing and matching any outfits a breeze, giving you a pulled-together, harmonious look that goes with everything in your wardrobe.
