Over 50? Fall Fashion Trends to Try OR Avoid!
If you're over 50, you don't have to avoid the latest fashions.
In fact, you'll learn the 5 biggest style trends for fall and the dos and don'ts for women our age.
You may be wondering how I learned about these trends…
I went to the editors at Vogue and took a look at what they are wearing this season.
Now as much as I like a classic wardrobe, I do like to update my closet every season with a few new pieces.
This keeps my wardrobe fresh and updated while allowing me to mix my classic pieces along with the new finds.
I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised because there are a lot of trends this season that are very classic, preppy, and chic!
Even if some of the pieces seem a bit over the top, I’m going to show you how to modify them to make them suit your wardrobe as a woman over fifty.

Biggest Fall Fashion Trends of 2022
#1. Wide Leg Jeans
Ultra baggy jeans are a Y2K trend and they’re coming back around for fall.
If you’re not familiar with the Y2K, it’s a very big buzzword right now. The look is kind of that grungy skater kid look featuring ultra baggy low-rise fit.
However at 55 and beyond, this is a look I would avoid.
Instead, let’s modify that look into something more flattering and age/figure appropriate. I've rounded up several different styles that are modern and updated yet flattering to women over 50.
The real takeaway here is that rather than overwhelming baggy jeans and low rise, look for jeans that are a bit wider through the leg and higher rise.
If you have a bit of a tummy, wearing low rise jeans will create dreaded muffin top. So opt for higher rise jeans instead. They tuck in any bits and jiggles and allow you to enjoy your day NOT feeling self-conscious.

#2. Tweed Jackets
Tweed blazers are coming in hot this season!
You may be surprised to know, this classic look has been around forever.
Tweed blazers were originally made famous by Chanel and St. John - knitted jackets featuring elegant details such as trimmed edging, decorative gold buttons, and a figure flattering fitted look.
You can wear these jackets over dresses, skirts, jeans, pants, or shorts.

#3. Ballet Flats
Ballet flats have always been popular but this year, they come with a bit of a twist.
The updated trend features a square toe instead of the traditional rounded toe.
What I love about this fashion statement is that it’s available at a wide variety of price points.
We’re seeing it from Christian Louboutin, Tory Burch, Katy Perry, as well as styles on Amazon.
These shoes look amazing with leggings, wide leg jeans and pants, as well as dresses and skirts.
They provide an elegant coastal grandmother look while being modern at the same time.

#4. Blazers
Blazers are a huge trend this season, however the look is very oversized to the point it looks like you stole your dad’s blazer.
While that was a look I enjoyed in the 80’s, I don’t think it is as appealing on women over the age of 50.
Instead of looking fresh and modern, it will look oversized and sloppy.
So here’s how we can wear blazers to stay up-to-date this fall.
I recommend paring it down a little bit. Go with a blazer that's a little more fitted and fits your body style.

#5. Vests
The vest trend is really big this fall and I think it’s going to be with us for several seasons. It’s being adopted by a brand new to a generation who hasn’t worn it before.
Many of these vests are very fitted, worn with suiting, or worn alone as a top and paired with jeans or trousers.
How do we make this look more age appropriate?
Opt for sweater vests, which are oversized vests that you can wear alone or layer over t-shirts or blouses. These provide a softer more feminine look as well as versatility to wear.
In addition, puffer vests are back on the scene and great for layering over sweaters and long sleeved shirts throughout fall and winter. These are the down filled vests that are an excellent alternative to coats to keep your body warm and your arms mobile.
